PORTRAIT FAQ
Can you describe your style when it comes to engagement photos?
My portraiture style is less posed and more journalistic. No one likes to
stare at the camera and give a fake smile repeatedly. We will do a mixture of candid and posed (but natural looking) shots. I also love intimate shots. I don't mean photographing the two of you making out (unless you wanna). I mean intimate meaningful shots that look as if it's just the two of you alone and I was never standing there. I want people to see your photos and undoubtedly know how in love the two of you are.
What should we wear?
Don't get too fancy! Remember, we want things to be pretty natural. Try to find colors that compliment each other while trying not to be too matchy. Try to avoid wearing a lot of white or red. Those colors reflect light badly and can look unflattering in photos.
Will the photos be edited?
Yes yes yes. This is half of my job. Each photo will be carefully edited. However, I do not do heavy editing. I rarely take my photos into Photoshop so unfortunately, I cannot manipulate things (switch out faces, fix your hair, create things that were not there, etc). I would much rather capture the moment as it genuinely was. So come prepared! I have a few hair + makeup artists I can refer you to, if you're interested.
How will my photos be delivered?
You will receive your high resolution, carefully edited images in an online gallery. Be sure to choose the option to download the highest quality photos, to avoid them from being fuzzy or pixelated. Please do not screen shot the photos from the gallery and then upload to the internet. Take the time to download them to your computer and then upload - it will be worth it! You can share, download, and post the photos to your heart’s content. I do allow you to print from wherever you'd like, but I highly recommend ordering prints through me. I order from a professional print lab that offers the highest quality prints. You will receive a print price list when you get your photos!
Are there any rules or restrictions on what we can do with our photos?
Like I mentioned above, please do not screen shot the photos and upload to the internet! In addition to that, please do not edit any of the photos yourself (this includes adding an Instagram filter). You can share these wherever and with whomever, but I do ask that you give credit to Halie Johnson Photography. This can help us both, because referrals can get you discounts on your future sessions!
What time of day should we have our portraits?
Try to avoid the middle of the day, when the sun is directly overhead (approx 11am – 3pm). This causes unflattering shadows and highlights on faces, and makes everyone squint! If you can, aim for a time where the sun is at a lower angle, particularly for your portrait session. The Golden Hour (the last hour of light before sunset) is prime portrait time.
What's the turnaround time?
Your images will be delivered to you within 3 weeks. If you need your images sooner, I offer rush processing for an additional $65 and your images will then be delivered within 3 days.
How do we book you?
To book a portrait session, a 50% non-refundable deposit is due. The other half will be due the day of the session!
WEDDING FAQ
Why is your preferred package 10 hours?
We’ve found that 10 hours usually covers a wedding day perfectly, capturing the entire day. However, you’re welcome to book us for more or a little less time. Just email us and we’ll prepare a quote specifically for you.
Will you be the only one shooting our wedding?
I always have another photographer with me. Most of the time it is my fiance' + business partner, Alec, that joins me. I hang out with the gals and he hangs out with the guys pre-ceremony, so that together, we never miss a moment. If he is for some reason unavailable, I have a list of trusted photographers that can help me out! They all have portfolios on hand ready for your viewing to ease your mind.
How will my photos be delivered?
You will receive your high resolution, carefully edited images in an online gallery. You can view, print and share the photos to your heart’s content. I highly recommend considering prints or an album as well. Prints, albums, and canvases can be purchased a la carte. You will be given a price list for those at the time of booking and again when your photos are delivered.
Do we need to provide a "shot list" to you?
No, we shoot like photojournalists, capturing the day how it naturally unfolds. A shot list takes the spontaneity out of the experience, and won’t allow us to be creative and be truly “in the moment”. All we need is a timeline for the day with important addresses and phone numbers, and a list of which family portraits you’d like taken (maximum 8 groups).
What time of day should we get married and have our portraits?
Try to avoid the middle of the day, when the sun is directly overhead (approx 11am – 3pm). This causes unflattering shadows and highlights on faces, and makes everyone squint! If you can, aim for a time where the sun is at a lower angle, particularly for your portrait session. The Golden Hour (the last hour of light before sunset) is prime portrait time.
What's the turnaround time?
Your images will be delivered to you within 6-8 weeks. I will post a few previews on my Facebook page to make the waiting game less stressful!
How do we book you?
If you see that we are a good match and you want to book us, we require a signed contract and a non-refundable deposit (30% of full balance) to book the date. The remaining balance will be due 30 days before your wedding day.
